Recap: 2019 DCI Southeastern Championships
With 2 more weekends of drum corps left, every show matters. Especially the Southeastern Championship. This is the last show where every single World Class corps went head to head on the same night before finals week. Yes, Eastern Classic is coming up next weekend, but that's split into two days and we all know that you shouldn't compare scores between shows. It just isn't the same.

Anyway, here's a few key takeaways from the show at Mercedes-Benz Stadium:

Can Genesis keep ahead of Music City?

These two corps met for the first time right before San Antonio at DCI Belton and the competition has been tight ever since. Music City started on top, but Genesis quickly changed the tides with a good showing in San Antonio and Lafayette, LA. But the last two shows have only been about a 0.2 difference between the two corps. This one is sure to be a fight to the finish.

We had a tie - The Academy and the Colts!

You don't see ties too often in the drum corps world, so this is especially fun to see. Both the Academy and the Colts scored a 79.875 on Saturday night, taking 14th place. The Academy's score was brought down a bit by their drum score, coming in 18th place in percussion. Other than that, the two are fairly evenly matched across the sheets. We also shouldn't forget about Pacific Crest, just 0.625 behind these two, pushing to have what could be one of their best seasons yet. Can't wait to see how this one shakes out over the next week.

The Battle of the Blues

It seems like if the word 'blue' is anywhere in your corps name this year, you're duking it out with someone for placement. The fight for 7th/8th is between the Blue Knights and the Blue Stars, with 0.262 separating the two. Blue Knights came out ahead on Saturday night, with both groups having a few stand-out sections on the score recap to make adjustments. For Blue Stars, their 10th place percussion score, and for the Blue Knights, it's visual proficiency.

In the battle for our top two slots, the Bluecoats just recently lost their undefeated status to the Blue Devils just last night! Today the corps came back and won it again, by a whole 0.125 points. This is an incredibly close race, with the Santa Clara Vanguard right behind them in third with a gap of 0.387 between SCV and the Blue Devils. The Blue Devils actually got 4th from both music analysis judges... Could cleaning up some changes and getting some clarity to bring them back out on top?

It won't take us long to see what happens next. All 5 of these corps will be in tomorrow's show, NightBEAT in Winston-Salem, NC.
