WBA Recap: 5 Bands Join the 90s Club In Last Weekend's Regional Showdowns
3 WBA regionals took place across California this past weekend, resulting in excellent displays of pageantry (and high scores), with 5 programs breaking 90
It was a big weekend for WBA action.
Three regionals took place across California this past weekend and resulted in excellent displays of pageantry, and of course, high scores. Five programs across the three regionals broke 90, propelling them into the last weekend of WBA competition with mass amounts of momentum. Here's everything you need to know about the outcome of last weekend's competition slate:
Trabuco Hills Tournament in the Hills
November 12 | Mission Viejo, CA
Chino Hills and Ayala High School went head-to-head in Class 5A, with Chino Hills ultimately coming out atop the class scoreboard with a 91.450, while Ayala slid into second place with a score of 90.225. Corona Del Sol High School took home third place with a score of 84.525.
Switching gears to Class 4A, it was a race for second place between La Cañada High School and Mira Costa High School. Upland High School topped the class with a score of 85.575, while La Cañada ultimately claimed second place with a score of 78.650. Mira Costa nabbed third place with a 78.150, and South Pasadena High School claimed fourth with a score of 76.975.
Class 3A was packed with competitors, but at the end of the day, Trabuco Hills High School claimed first place with a score of 87.550. Fountain Valley High School found itself in second place with an 86.875, and Carlsbad High School in third with an 83.000.
It was a close race for first place in Class 2A between El Toro High School and Rowland High School. Just over half a point separated the two competitors at the end of the day, with El Toro taking home first place with an 80.675, Rowland taking second place with an 80.100, and Mission Viejo High School rounding out the top three with a 78.975. El Segundo High School just barely missed the cutoff for bronze and eventually took home fourth place with a score of 78.150.
Finally, in Class 1A, Don Antonio High School claimed the gold medal with a score of 74.925, while Bloomington High School took home the silver medal with a score of 70.250.

James Logan Invitational Band Tournament
It was a star-studded event in Class 5A, with some top-notch programs showing up big-time. James Logan High School stole the show with a score of 93.700. Homestead High School took home second place with a score of 91.450, and Amador Valley High School rounded out the top three with a score of 90.475.
Granite Bay High School claimed the top spot in class 4A with a score of 82.700, and Los Gatos High School nabbed second with a score of 79.700.
Class 3A was full of photo finishes and fierce competition. While Branham High School slid into first place with a score of 85.925, things got interesting in the race for second, third, and fourth place. Santa Teresa High School just edged out Mountain View High School for second place with a score of 83.925 vs Mountain View's 83.900. The razor-thin margins continued with Leigh High School taking home fourth place with a score of 83.688 and Mountain Vista High School taking fifth with a score of 83.275. And no, you didn't read that incorrectly: there were just 0.65 points separating 2nd-5th. Absolutely wild.
Independence High School topped Class 2A with a score of 84.550, Oak Grove High School took second with a score of 81.925, while Hollister High School slid into third with a score of 79.225.
Finally in Class 1A, The King's Academy took home the gold medal with a score of 88.825, a decisive margin of over 10 points over second-place Sobrato High School, which scores a 77.875. Santa Clara High School came in third with a score of 76.425, and Gilroy High school slid into fourth with a 71.275.

Clovis East High School and Clovis High School went head-to-head in Class 5A, where Clovis High School ended up at the top of the table with a score of 88.050, while Clovis East took second with a score of 86.275.
In Class 4A, Kingsburg High School nabbed the gold medal with a score of 82.200, while Redwood High School took home the silver with a score of 80.650, and Ridgeview High School claimed the bronze with a score of 78.150.
Clovis West High School had a decisive victory in class 3A with a score of 83.325. Madera High School claimed second place with a 78.650, while El Diamante High School slid into third with a score of 73.725. Caruthers High School rounded out the class with a score of 64.350.
In Class 2A, Madera High School ended the day topping the class, scoring a 78.200. Selma High School took second place with a score of 76.325, while Sunnyside High School walked away with third place after scoring a 71.025.
Finally, in Class 1A, Justin Garza High School finished the day in first place with a score of 76.200 while Templeton High School took home second with a score of 71.900.
